Cynthia’s Murder: Hotel Workers Sacked For Negligence

The management of Cosmilla Hotel in Lagos, where the late Miss Cynthia Udoka Osokogu was murdered by some men she met on Facebook, has sacked all the staff of the hotel that were on duty, the day of the murder.

The hotel, which is located at Lake View Estate, Amuwo Odofin in Lagos State, is said to have a tradition of ‘proper screening’ of its guests at the point of checking-in, by demanding valid identification of prospective guests.



The front-desk officer was said to have breached the established procedure, paving way for difficulty in identifying the body of the deceased as her attackers had taken away all items that could assist in identifying her.

The hotel rules demand that guests must present their ID cards or passport before given a room in the hotel.

The fake identities of the suspects had made it difficult for the police at Area ‘F’ Command to quickly solve the murder riddle.

Although only two of the suspects were paraded before journalists at the Lagos State Police Command, two others, Orji Osita and Maduako Chukwunonso, who were the pharmacists that sold the drug, used to sedate the late Cynthia, were on Monday, arraigned before the Yaba Magistrates’ Court with the main suspects.

The case is adjourned to the 3rd of October.

The Delta State-born victim who met her untimely death is set to be buried September 7.

35 Year Old Man Rapes Three Year Old Girl In Lagos

It happened yesterday afternoon at Adeniji Adele, Dolphin Estate, Phase 2. We gathered that a little girl ran into a woman's shop crying. The woman asked her why she was crying, but the little girl couldn't really express herself. She just kept pointing at a particular direction, and crying. Then a few minutes later, the shop owner saw a man approaching her shop and calling on the girl to follow him. The woman asked the man who he was and why he was after the girl. The man probably realized the women wasn't going to release the girl to him, so he tried to run. The woman raised an alarm immediately shouting ole ole, thinking he was a kidnapper, not knowing he had done something much worse.



Youths in the area thinking the man was a thief descended on him. The man kept saying he wasn't a thief that the little girl was known to him. They turned to the girl and pressured her to tell them what the guy had done to her; the 3 year old told them that the man had taken her to the last floor of a 3 story building and hurt her. They checked the girl's panties and saw blood all over her private area. The blood had even dropped to her legs but nobody noticed on time.

On hearing this, the youths descended on him once again, this time more brutal. They stripped him unclad, and beat him with stick, stones, bottles, etc until someone called the police who then took him away.

It was always going to be a big event even though it involved two very small people. Chandra Bahadur Dangi, the worlds shortest man and Jyoti Amge, the worlds shortest woman met for the first time to celebrate the organisation which made them famous.

The 18-year-old from India and the 72-year-old Nepalese both made headlines last winter when they were given their titles by the Guinness World Records. Married Woman Dies During Sex With Another Married Man

Padmore, has been arrested and
charged to a Lagos court on the
allegation that his lover, Edith
Nwokolo, another man's wife,

Uche is now facing a murder
charge at Ebute Metta
Magistrate’s court, Lagos over
her death.

The lovers, who are both
married, engaged in sex romp at
94, Mushin Road, Mushin, Lagos,
Southwest Nigeria. It was
gathered that while Uche was on
top of Edith, she started
breathing heavily, jerked and
died. They were reported to
have dated each other before
they got married to different
spouses.

Sources said immediately the
incident happened, Uche, who
has three kids, abandoned his
pant and shoes and fled. Edith
was found dead on top of abed
and a neigbour who saw Uche
with her before she died, raised
the alarm and the matter was
reported to the police at Olosan
Division.

He was arrested and arraigned
on Wednesday for murder
before the presiding Magistrate,
Mr. T. Aborinwa under section
221 of the criminal code law of
Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.
Her death triggered controversy
as the deceased woman’s family
insisted that Uche was
responsible. But the autopsy
report presented at the court
showed that she died of heart
related problem. When the
matter came up at the court,
Uche pleaded not guilty.

The presiding magistrate
granted him bail since the
autopsy showed she died as a
result of heart problem.

50 YEARS OLD WIDOWCOMMIT SUICIDE IN APATA,IBADAN

A 50-year-old widow, Juliana
Oluwafemi, has committed
suicide by hanging in Apata
Elere area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
It was learnt that Oluwafemi,
popularly known as Iya Iyanu,
was found hanging on a tree
close to the Odo-Ona River,
Apata on Monday.

A youth leader in the
community, Mr. Ayodele Obaro,
who spoke with journalists on
the issue, said the deceased was
discovered around 8am by
mechanics that had gone to the
river banks to defecate.
He said, “When I heard about the
incident, I reported to a nearby
church, Saint Paul’s Anglican
Church and they later informed
the police.”

According to the younger sister
of the deceased, Iya Subomi,
Juliana was declared missing on
Saturday after efforts to trace
her whereabouts failed.
She said, “She came to her son’s
house at Odo-ona on Friday and
was left at home by her son
who went for a vigil.

“However, by the time he came
back on Saturday morning, he
did not see his mother at home.
“Her disappearance was
suspicious, because she left the
house without her shoes and
phone.”
Subomi added that someone
informed her that a dead
woman was found hanging on a
tree by the river. She said after
she was shocked to discover
that the dead woman was her
sister.

Subomi said, “Her business was
thriving and her children were
doing well. I am also very sure
that she was not in debt. I
cannot say why she decided to
take her own life.”
Efforts to get comments from
the police were abortive as the
Police Public Relations Officer,
Mrs. Bisi Inobanafor, could not
be reached.

WORLD BANK BUDGETS $300M FOR YOUTHEMPLOYMENT IN NIGERIA

Abuja – The World Bank has budgeted
300 million dollars for Youth
Employment and Social Support Operation
(YESSO) scheme in Nigeria, Marie-
Francoise Mariel-Nelly, Country Director
of the World Bank in Nigeria said. Mariel-Nelly made the statement in Abuja
on Tuesday at the 53rd Annual conference
of the Nigerian Economic Society (NES).
“We are preparing a Youth Employment
and Social Support operation (YESSO)
aiming at supporting the provision of immediate work opportunities and skills
development for unemployed youths and
women from poor households,” she said.
Mariel-Nelly said increasing youth
employment was one of the bank’s global
priorities as it had observed that one in five of all new job seekers in Africa
were Nigerians.
“The 300 million dollars project will
cover all parts of the country in up to 20
states,” she said.
Mariel-Nelly also said that the World Bank with support from the EU would
launch the State Employment and
Expenditure for results project
(SEEFOR) in the Niger Delta region.
She said the aim was to take youths off
the streets as well as improve the country’s infrastructure.
She said that through ACCESS Nigeria,
the bank had demonstrated commitment to
opening employment opportunities for
graduates of Information Communication
Technology through target training in core competencies benchmarked to global
industry standards.
“The bank provides matching grant as seed
money to empower young farmers to adopt
new technologies and acquire capital assets,
which they use to undertake a wide range of value addition and small-scale income
generating activities,” she said.
She said youth unemployment was a threat
to social and political stability as was
evident in the youth restiveness in the
Niger Delta. Mariel-Nelly said the bank would
continue to support government efforts to
address the challenge of unemployment in
the country (NAN)

The makers of 18 Again, the
Mumbai-based pharmaceutical
company Ultratech, say it is the first of its kind in India (similar
creams are already available in
other parts of the world such as
the USA), and fills a gap in the
market. Ultratech's owner, Rishi Bhatia,
says the cream, which is selling
for around $44 (£28), contains
natural ingredients including
gold dust, aloe vera, almond and
pomegranate, and has been clinically tested. "It's a unique and revolutionary
product which also works
towards building inner
confidence in a woman and
boosting her self esteem," says
Mr Bhatia, adding that the goal of the product is to "empower
women". Mr Bhatia says the product is not
claiming to restore a woman's
vírginity, but to restore the
emotions of being a vírgín.
"We are only saying, 'feel like a
vírgin' - it's a metaphor. It tries to bring back that feeling when a
person is 18." But the company's advertising
strategy has attracted criticism
from some doctors, women's
groups and social media users,
who say the product reinforces
the widely held view in India that pré-marital séx is something
to be frowned upon, a taboo
which is even seen as sinful by
some. "This kind of cream is utter
nonsense, and could give some
women an inferiority complex,"
argues Annie Raja from the
National Federation of Indian
Women, which fights for women's rights in the country.
Ms Raja says that rather than
empower women, the cream will
do the opposite, by reaffirming a
patriarchal view that is held by
many here - the notion that men want all women to be virgins
until their wedding night. "Why
should women remain a virgin
until marriage? It is a woman's right to make
loveual relations with a man, but
society here still says they

AVIATION MINISTER BLOCKS AIRLINE FROM ABUJA

Minister of Aviation Stella Oduah has denied
approval for some foreign airlines to extend their
services to Abuja airport in addition to Lagos
where they now operate, sources told Daily
Trust in Abuja. A senior government official told our reporter
that three foreign airlines—Emirates, Turkish and
Etihad—have sought approval of the Nigerian
aviation authorities to begin commercial flights
to Abuja but the minister “has refused to grant
the request.” Instead, Mrs. Oduah told them to consider flying
to Enugu, so as not to overstretch the facilities
in Abuja. A spokesman for Mrs Oduah confirmed to Daily
Trust that the minister has asked the airlines to
“explore the opportunity of extending their
operations to Enugu” instead of concentrating
in Abuja and Lagos. The three airlines which now operate to the
Murtala Mohammed International Airport,
Lagos, sought for approvals to be landing in
Abuja as a second destination in Nigeria because
of the increasing number of passengers they get
from the capital city and other parts of the North. “Some of the requests have been filed over a
year ago to the Federal Ministry of Aviation but
no approvals have been given,” the source said. “When they met with the minister few weeks
ago, she queried why they insisted on Abuja as a
second destination. “She instead told them to commence flight
operations to Enugu airport. But they told the
minister that they have high number of
passengers wanting to have a direct flight from
Abuja.” The aviation minister then suggested another
option to the three airlines which is that she
would link them with local airlines that will fly
their passengers from Abuja to Enugu for
onward boarding of their international flights
out of the country. The source said the minister’s decision appeared
to put the North at a disadvantage, especially
given that only Egypt Air now flies to Kano after
KLM ceased its service to the Malam Aminu Kano
International Airport. When contacted for comment, the minister’s
special assistant on media, Mr. Toyin Okpaise,
said it was in an effort to ensure the
diversification of airline operation in the country
that the minister asked the three airlines to
explore the opportunity of extending their operations to Enugu rather than concentrate in
Lagos and Abuja. “Even if they think most of their customers are in
Abuja, they can still operate from Enugu and use
domestic flights to connect the passengers to
Abuja,” he said. “That way, we shall develop our local airlines and
make all the airports busy. It is the duty of the
minister to ensure that flight operations are not
allowed to concentrate in just one place.” When contacted, Managing Director of Turkish
Airlines, Mr. Ali Bulut, said he would not speak
about the details of their discussions with the
regulators because the regulators are co-
operating with them. He said talks have advanced and he is positive
they would be given approval. He also declined to
disclose the specific conditions the regulators
have given them before they could be allowed to
fly into Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport,
Abuja. Our correspondent could not get a response
from Emirates Airlines, which is a United Arab
Emirates company, as an email sent to them was
not replied. An official of Etihad, also a UAE airline, told our
reporter in Lagos that the company has not
applied to fly into Abuja. But in August 2008, Etihad announced its plans
to begin service to Lagos and Abuja in the first
quarter of 2009. “The four-times-a-week service
will employ an Airbus 330-200 aircraft, which
can accommodate 262 passengers in a two-
class configuration while carrying 14 tonnes of cargo,” said a report in a United Arab Emirates
newspaper, The National. “The route will fly in a triangular pattern with
flights from Abu Dhabi flying to Lagos first and
then onwards to Abuja, before returning to the
UAE capital, the report said, quoting James
Hogan, the chief executive of Etihad, who added
that the service would particularly target West African travellers coming to the UAE for trading,
shopping and holidays.

Buhari blames Jonathan, OBJ, IBBfor corruption, insecurity

FORMER Military Head of State and presidential
candidate of the Congress for Progressive
Change (CPC) in the 2011 general elections, Gen.
Muhammadu Buhari yesterday took a critical
look at the state of the nation and declared that
corruption and insecurity are fast undermining the future of Nigeria. And tracing where and when Nigeria started
getting it wrong, Buhari fingered the
administrations of Gen. Ibrahim Babangida and
Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, to the current
President Goodluck Jonathan. He alleged that
lack of sincerity on the part of leaders under the administrations of the trio caused the
unimaginable level of corruption and insecurity in
the country. Buhari spoke as the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto,
Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah declared that no
Nigerian president was ever prepared for the
leadership of the country. According to Buhari, the Federal Government,
since the administration of Babangida to date, is
responsible for the “high level of corruption and
destruction” in the petroleum industry. The former head of state spoke in Kaduna while
receiving leaders and members of CPC led by
House of Representatives member from Funtua/
Dandume Federal Constituency of Katsina State,
Dr. Mansur Abdulkadir, on a courtesy visit
ahead of the forthcoming local council election in the state. According to Buhari, for Nigeria to move
forward and realise its quest for development,
its people must come out with trusted leaders to

“there is no country in the whole world where
impunity strives as it is the case in Nigeria”. He said: “The biggest challenge of Nigeria is for
adequate security to be in place and ways in
which we can protect the riches of this country
and provide job opportunities for the youths is
to build more industries as it was before. “Inability of these industries to work has
brought mistrust and corruption to Nigeria.
Therefore, our leaders have to be sincere and
lead with the fear of God and carry all along for
Nigeria to be a better place. “All leaders should stand and keep promises to
the people. We cannot move forward if things
that are supposed to be put in place are not
provided. The money which was siphoned in the
recent pension scam and the petroleum industry
scam must all be brought back into the government’s coffer for good leadership. “Therefore, all those that want the masses to
vote and be voted for should go to the masses
and get their mandate. The era of using money
to bribe the masses or force to get political office
is gone. “A leader who wants to be a good leader must
look at what the needs of the people are, the
suffering, and the humiliation and proffer
solution to those problems, and together we
shall achieve greatness.” Buhari insisted that corruption was
institutionalised in the petroleum sector during
the era of Babangida, Obasanjo and the present
Jonathan administration because they allegedly
had the mind of cheating and pauperising the
masses. He lamented the high level of suffering of the
masses in the country, saying practical steps
must be taken urgently to tackle the situation. In his remarks, the leader of the delegation,
Abdulkadir, said the purpose of their visit was to
wish Buhari happy Eid-el-Fitri celebration and
seek his blessing ahead of the polls. He prayed that Nigeria be blessed with honest
and committed leaders like Buhari to get the
nation out of the woods. Bishop Kukah declared that from Tafawa
Balewa’s era to the present time, all Nigerian
leaders who got into office achieved it by stroke
of luck. Delivering a keynote address at the on-going
52nd Annual General Conference of the Nigeria
Bar Association (NBA), Kukah called for the
removal of Section 162 of the Constitution in the
on-going Constitutional amendment if the
nation must move forward. His words: “No Nigerian president or head of

of the country. From the days of Tafawa
Balewa, all Nigerian leaders had always got into
office through good luck, as most of them were
never prepared for leadership. The transition that took place had a terminal point, it was
clearly known and nobody was left in doubt that
everything was put in place to bring Obasanjo to
power from prison, everybody that fought for
the entrenchment of democracy is on the
outside, from the annulment of the June 12 election till now Nigeria has had seven
presidents. “We cannot retain Section 162 of the
Constitution if the nation must move forward.
As long as the access to the resources of Nigeria
is access to do as you like, we would continue to
have violence in the country. Nigeria needs to be
a bit creative and commit itself to human rights. Nigeria is a country with huge resources and
unfortunately a country with a lot of poor
people, one of the difficulties of this country.
Anybody who is the president of Nigeria
deserves our sympathy as the loyalty in Nigeria
has been transferred to tribes and godfathers, and 30 years from now Nigeria will be ruled by
people who have their loyalty to tribe and
godfathers. Nigerians are looking for a messiah,
a messiah is not going to come from another
planet, the Nigerian messiah is among us, who
the messiah is, is what we don’t know so let’s us try to treat one another with some respect.” According to Kukah, “people will be ready to
defend democracy if they see an appreciable
increase in their well being. Nigeria is a nation
that is flying without a black box, Nigeria is a
country without history, I have not found a
Nigerian that can talk about another tribe of the country without the obvious prejudices, what
we face is country where even our heroes and
heroines are largely contested.” In his own remarks, the Attorney-General of the
Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice,
Mohamed Bello Adoke (SAN) stressed the need
to reform the nation’s laws, governance
processes and procedures, which have been
adjudged by some investors to be archaic and unsuitable for driving economic growth if the
country’s quest for economic development and
the concerted efforts must be fruitful. According to Adoke, “Nigeria’s endowment and
potential as an emerging market is not in doubt.
We must however realize that there are other
equally endowed markets that are competing
with us for the attraction of investments. On
Criminal Justice Reforms, we have produced a Draft Administration of Criminal Justice Bill,
Draft Code of Conduct for Public Prosecutors
and Draft Prosecutorial Guidelines to address
some of the challenges in the administration of
criminal justice especially for the Federal Capital
Territory and hope to recommend same as a good practice to states that are yet to enact
similar legislation. These drafts are now
undergoing stakeholder review. “To boost our war against corruption, I wish to
report that the Whistle Blower’s Bill, Stolen
Asset Recovery and Management Bill and the
Anti- Bribery Bill, are at advanced stages of
completion. We have already submitted to the

· Do a complete backup of your

1. Delete your email accounts from the
appropriate BIS website.
2. Hook up your BlackBerry to the Desk
Top Manager using a USB Cable.
3. Open the “Back up and Restore” then
go to advanced.
4. Then go to the box on the right hand
side “device database”, Clear the
calendar entries.
5. Disconnect the BlackBerry from the
Desk Top Manager.
6. Remove the battery with the
Blackberry powered on; leave it off for
a minute or two.
7. Put the battery back in and allow the
Blackberry to reboot.
8. Re-enter the email account(s) into the
appropriate BIS website.
9. If you have more then one email
account on your device, go into
Options, then Advanced Options, then
Default Services and choose which
Email Account you want to be your
default.
10. Re-sync your BlackBerry to Outlook.
· Note: An additional step during Step 1
above might include deleting all your
Service Books: Delete all the [CICAL]
service books (there will be one per
email account).
