Initial Subscribing viaSMS
· Prepaid customers will be able to
subscribe to the Airtel’s BlackBerry
Complete and Social Bundle offer plans
via SMS
· To subscribe to the Airtel’s BlackBerry
Complete and Social Bundle offer plan;
customer sends keyword “bc*” or “bs*”
to 440 - *** refers to time period
wishes to select month; week; or day
(see appendix for complete options on
all plans).
· Customers receive an auto response
thanking them for subscribing to the
service.
· When the customer is activated on the
plan, the customer will receive an sms
indicated that (s)he has been
successfully activated to the Airtel’s
BlackBerry Complete and Social Bundle
offer plan of their choice.
Initial Subscribing via USSD
· Prepaid customers will be able to
subscribe to the plans via USSD
· To subscribe to the Airtel’s BlackBerry
Complete and Social Bundle offer,
customer types and sends *440*xxx #
(see appendix for complete options on
all plans)
· Customers receive an auto response
thanking them for subscribing to the
service.
· When the customer is activated on the
Airtel’s BlackBerry Complete and Social
Bundle offer plan, the customer will
receive a prompt indicating that (s)he
has been successfully activated to the
Airtel BlackBerry service
Subscription via the Broker Application
· When the option is available, POST
PAID Customers will also able to walk-in
to an Airtel Shop or Call Customer
Service Delivery to request activation
for the various BlackBerry services.
· Agents and Shop Consultants receive
requests from customer for Airtel’s
BlackBerry Complete and Social Bundle
offer.
· Activation is done on the enhance
broker application using customer
personal and device details including
Full name, Email, MSISDN, PIN, IMEI
etc.
Re-subscription to BlackBerry Service
· Customers subscribes to the Airtel’s
BlackBerry Complete and Social Bundle
offer for the monthly periods.
· Customers receive a prompt
reminding them of the service expiry
date 7days before service expires
(similar prompts exists on weekly and
daily services).
· If customer has the required service
fee amount in their account at the
instance of service expiry, then the
relevant BlackBerry service will be
reactivated automatically and relevant
service fee will be deducted from the
customer’s account.
· If customer does not have required
service fee amount in their account at
the instance of service expiry, they will
be required to send relevant SMS or
USSD code for service activation. See
appendix for list of BlackBerry short
codes
Question: What is the 1st step to
take if device is having problems?
Answer: The 1st Step is to pull the
battery out of the device and leave it
out for about 30 seconds. This will clear
the internal memory and will solve
many, many issues.
1. Leave the BlackBerry powered ON.
2. Pull the seconds battery
3. Leave it out for 30
4. Replace battery and let device boot
Question: How do I wipe ALL
personal data from a BlackBerry
device?
Answer: NOTE: This does NOT delete
the Operating System from your
BlackBerry.
This wipe will remove ALL personal data
(contacts, memos, calendar
appointments, settings, preferences,
etc.) from the device, almost as if
"factory fresh". The device will still work
for you or your next user. This wipe will
NOT delete most Third Party
Applications.
1. Go to Options
2. Select Security Options
3. Select General Settings
4. Hit menu key and select Wipe

Question: How do I transfer SIM
contacts to the device?
Answer: 1. On your BlackBerry, go to
the Address Book.
2. Open it and click (or press Menu on
8100, 8800, 8300) to see SIM Phone
Book.
3. Click SIM Phone Book. The list of your
SIM contacts will appear.
· From here you have 2 options:
a) You may choose to highlight one
contact and click to ADD TO ADDRESS
BOOK
b) b) You can COPY ALL TO ADDRESS
BOOK. If you have a great number of
contacts, this may take a while, be
patient.
· Please note that SIM contacts will
ONLY contain one phone number per
contact entry. Your Blackberry Address
Book will have a different arrangement
with one Contact Name and several
fields of information (Cell phone, Work
Phone, Home Phone, email address,
etc.) All your SIM contacts will copy to
the BlackBerry Address Book as
separate contacts. You will need to edit
each, copy and paste phone numbers
from one entry to a main entry. This is
best done by syncing your BlackBerry
back to a program such as MS Outlook
where you can use a PC to more easily
edit the address book, and then sync
back to your BlackBerry to update it.
· It is by default that ALL contacts from
your SIM card will copy to your
Blackberry Address Book as "Work
Phone". This cannot be changed; you
will need to edit the information to
arrange it correctly.
Question: Where do I find my PIN
and IMEI?
Answer: 1. Go to Options
2. Select Status
Question: My Caller ID name/
number do not show when I get a
call or SMS
Answer: There could be any one of
three solutions... Try these:
1. Make sure you set your own country
code at Phone Dialer Screen > Options
> Smart dialing. Set your Country Code
in this format: "+234"
2. At the same location, change the
National Number Length to 10
3. You may have "Content Protection"
set on your Address Book. Look at
Options > Security > General Settings.
Scroll down to Content Protection >
Include Address Book = NO.
Question: Some emails come to my
Blackberry and some do not
Answer: IF you are using Outlook to
download your email to your desktop
PC,Outlook is likely "deleting" mail from
your email server when it downloads it
to your PC.
There is a setting in Outlook to "Leave
Messages on Server".
For MS Outlook 2003/2007/2010:
Outlook > Tools > Email accounts > View
or Change existing > next.
Highlight the email account > Change >
More Settings.
Advanced Tab > Leave a Copy of
Messages on Server
Check that box.
Other versions of Outlook have a
similar setting although it might be
located in a slightly different location in
the: advanced settings"
Question: How do I Add email
addresses?
Answer: From the device:
1. Click on the Setup Internet E-mail
Icon
2. Click on E-mail Accounts link
3. Click on the Add e-mail account link
a) You can also select Create a
Blackberry e-mail address from this
area
4. Follow the directions by entering the
email address and password
Question: How do I Delete email
addresses?
Answer: 1. Click on the Setup Internet
E-mail Icon

3. Click on the email address you want
to delete user@domain.com link
4. Select the Delete link
Question: My Emails Stopped
Arriving
Answer: Has your email stopped
arriving to the device? Follow these
steps to restore the service books to
the device:
· Note: You may wish to determine if
there is general outage of BIS/BES
service in your area, or with RIM in
general.
Step One - Hard Reboot:
1. Remove battery from the device
2. Leave the battery out for at least 30
seconds
3. Replace battery and let the device
reboot
Step Two - Register on Network: (if
step one did not solve issue)
1. From the device go to Options
2. Select Advanced Options
3. Select Host Routing Table
4. Select menu, then 'Register Now'
Step Three - Call Service Provider
1. Call Airtel and have them check the
provisioning of your account and
resend
Service Books.
Question: What kind of ringtones/
audio can my Blackberry have?
Answer: The supported audio formats
on BlackBerry devices are the following:
AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) - The
supported formats include MPEG2 and
MPEG4, as well as HE-AAC / AAC+. The
supported sample rates are 8 KBps,
11.025 KBps, 12 KBps, 16 KBps, 22.05
KBps, 32 KBps, 44.1 KBps and 48 KBps.
The supported channels are all
configurations of mono and stereo
(Note: Depending on the BlackBerry
Device Software version, AAC+ may not
support parametric stereo).
AMR (Adaptive Multi-Rate) - The
supported AMR-NB rates are 4.75 KBps,
5.15 KBps, 5.9 KBps, 6.7 KBps, 7.4 KBps,
7.95 KBps, 10.2 KBps, and 12.2 KBps;
and the input must conform to RFC3267
Section 5 on the Internet FAQ Archive
web site.
MIDI - Partial support of MIDI on older
BlackBerry devices refers to a buzzer
capable of buzzing at various
frequencies and volumes. All other
BlackBerry devices support polyphonic
MIDI.
MP3 - Currently, the supported format
is MPEG-1 Layer 3; the supported
sample rates are 32KHz, 44.1KHz, and
48KHz; and the supported channels are
1 (mono) and 2 (stereo).
ADPCM2 - This is a proprietary sampled
audio format.
WAV - The supported encodings include
PCM, uLaw, and aLaw. The supported
sampling rates are 8 kHz, 16 kHz, 22.05
kHz, 32 kHz, 44.1 kHz, and 48 kHz with 8-
bit and 16-bit depths.
Question: How do I turn off the
clicking shutter sound of my
Camera?
Answer: There is not an option or
setting on the BB to turn off the
shutter sounds you hear when you
take a picture.
However there are two workarounds to
silence the shutter sounds:
· Dial a phone number and, while in the
call, your camera will not emit shutter
sounds.
· Plug in wired headphones before
taking photographs.
Question: All of my Calendar events
are not showing in my calendar
Answer: If you are encountering an
issue of all your calendar events not
appearing in your calendar or your
"today" theme screen, follow the steps
below. This issue often occurs after
upgrading from OS 4.1 or OS 4.2 to an
OS 4.5 wherein your calendar events
are tied to email addresses on your
BlackBerry.
· Do a complete backup of your
Blackberry as a precaution before
proceeding.
· Do a complete sync to Outlook of your
calendar events.
1. Delete your email accounts from the
appropriate BIS website.
2. Hook up your BlackBerry to the Desk
Top Manager using a USB Cable.
3. Open the “Back up and Restore” then
go to advanced.
4. Then go to the box on the right hand
side “device database”, Clear the
calendar entries.
5. Disconnect the BlackBerry from the
Desk Top Manager.
6. Remove the battery with the
Blackberry powered on; leave it off for
a minute or two.
7. Put the battery back in and allow the
Blackberry to reboot.
8. Re-enter the email account(s) into the
appropriate BIS website.
9. If you have more then one email
account on your device, go into
Options, then Advanced Options, then
Default Services and choose which
Email Account you want to be your
default.
10. Re-sync your BlackBerry to Outlook.
· Note: An additional step during Step 1
above might include deleting all your
Service Books: Delete all the [CICAL]
service books (there will be one per
email account).
Question: How do I turn on the WI-Fi
feature on my Device?
Answer: To turn on Wi-Fi, perform
the following steps:
1. At the Home screen, press the Menu
key.
2. Scroll to the Manage Connections
icon and press the trackball.
3. Scroll to Wi-Fi and press the trackball
to place a check mark in the box to turn
on Wi-Fi.
Scanning for and connecting to
available networks
To scan for and connect to available
networks, perform the following
steps:
1. At the Home screen, press the Menu
key.
2. Scroll to Set Up Wi-Fi Network and
press the trackball.
3. Scroll to Next and press the trackball.
4. Select Scan for Networks. The
handheld scans and displays available
networks.
5. Scroll to the desired network and
press the trackball to connect.
Adding a new network
To add a network from the available
networks, perform the following
steps:
1. At the Home screen, press the Menu
key.
2. Scroll to Set Up Wi-Fi Network and
press the trackball.
3. Scroll to Next and press the trackball.
4. Select Scan for Networks. The device
scans and displays available networks.
5. Scroll to the desired network and
press the trackball.
6. At the Save this Wi-Fi Network as a
Profile anyway? field, ensure Yes is
selected.
To add a network manually, perform
the following steps:
1. At the Home screen, press the Menu
key.
2. Scroll to Set Up Wi-Fi Network and
press the trackball.
3. Scroll to Next and press the trackball.
4. Scroll to Manually Add Network and
press the trackball.
5. Type the network name, and then
select Add.
6. At Security Type, press the trackball.
7. Scroll to one of the following options
and press the trackball:
· No Security
· WEP
· Pre-Shared Key (PSK)
· PEAP
· LEAP
· EAP-TLS
· EAP-FAST
· EAP-TTLS
· EAP-SIM
8. Scroll to Connect and press the
trackball.
9. At the Save this Wi-Fi Network as a
Profile anyway? field, ensure Yes is
selected.
To edit saved networks, perform the
following steps:
1. At the Home screen, press the Menu
key.
2. Scroll to the Manage Connections
icon and press the trackball.
3. Scroll to Wi-Fi Options and press the
trackball.
4. Scroll to a network and press the
Menu key.
5. Scroll to Edit and press the trackball.
6. Edit the network name, SSID, security
type, and any other information as
desired.
7. Press the Menu key, and then select
Save.
Question: How do I Transfer files /
media via Bluetooth?
Answer: Transfer between Devices
1. On the device that is going to receive
the file: Navigate to the Media Folder
2. Select the folder where you want to
receive the file (Music, Video, Ringtones,
Pictures)
3. Select the sub-folder (Device
Memory, Preloaded, Media Card)
4. Press the menu key
5. Select Receive Using Bluetooth
6. Send the file from the other device
Transfer From PC to Device (or vice
versa)
1. You must have a Bluetooth adapter
or have Bluetooth built into the PC
2. Pair the device with the PC
3. Open Desktop Manager
4. Double Click the BlackBerry Device
Manager Properties icon (in the system
tray next to the clock in windows)
5. Select Bluetooth Support and check
the box
6. Select Configure Bluetooth
7. Select Add
8. Add your device
9. Go back into Desktop Manager and
select Options >> Connection Settings
10. On the connection drop down box
highlight Bluetooth and select enable
Bluetooth support
11. Transfer the files from the device to
the PC or vice versa
Question: How do I scroll
horizontally?
Answer: Hold down the Alt key and roll
the track wheel.
Question: How do I select multiple
emails to delete at one time?
Answer: In the message inbox hold the
Shift key down and roll the track wheel
to select multiple emails, then push
track wheel in again and select delete.
Question: How do I copy and paste
text?
Answer: Position the cursor in front of
the text you want to copy, press the
Shift key and roll the track wheel to
highlight the text you want to copy.
Once the text is highlighted push track
wheel in and select copy. Go to where
you want to paste the text and push
track wheel in and select Paste.
Question: How do you quickly
capitalize a letter in the middle of a
sentence?
Answer: Hold down the letter for 2
seconds and it will change from lower
case to upper case.
Question: Can I call a number from
an email if the number is in the body
of the email?
Answer: Yes. You can also highlight a
web link and go to that link by pushing
the track wheel in selecting get link
Question: How do I quickly get to my
newest message and my oldest
messages?
Answer: Go to your Messages then
press the letter "T" and it will take you
to the Top of the list. Pressing "B" will
take you to the bottom. Press the space
bar will move you down one screen of
messages at a time.
